In my first article, I would like to start with one of the fundamental trends that enabled meshmeakers.io to be founded and offer you solutions and services. Away from many marketing articles - what is actually meant by "Industry 4.0" in today's world?
Industry 4.0, also known as the fourth industrial revolution, is the integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics into manufacturing and industrial processes. This integration is expected to result in a more connected, efficient, and flexible industrial system.
Industry 4.0 technologies enable the creation of "smart factories"; where machines, equipment, and other industrial assets are connected and communicate with each other to optimize processes and increase efficiency. For example, sensors can be placed on machines to gather data on their performance, which can then be analyzed to identify areas for improvement.
The ultimate goal of Industry 4.0 is to create a "cyber-physical system" where the physical and digital worlds are seamlessly integrated. This would enable real-time decision making, predictive maintenance, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing market conditions.
It is also expected to bring many benefits like increased efficiency, improved product quality, and greater customization of products. The integration of advanced technologies is also expected to lead to the development of new business models and the creation of new job opportunities.
Industry 4.0 was first mentioned in 2011 by the German government as part of their "High-Tech Strategy 2020" plan, so is there a successor of it? Well – yes. Currently the term Industry 5.0 comes up – the term also aims to enhance human-machine collaboration through the use of robotics, XR, and other advanced technologies, creating a more efficient and effective industrial environment.
Industry 5.0 is considered a much more holistic approach to digitalization, taking in account not just the technology but also the people, society, and environment. This approach will be based on sustainable, green, circular principles and on social inclusion.
In summary, Industry 5.0 is an evolution of Industry 4.0, leveraging advanced technologies and digitalization to create a highly flexible, adaptable, and sustainable industrial ecosystem that can respond to rapidly changing market conditions, enhance human-machine collaboration, and create new business models.
